Why this patient-written resource exists, how it is researched, and how to use or support it.

Important medical disclaimer

This page is written from a patient perspective, not by a doctor. Every effort has been made to base it on reputable medical research and clinical publications, but it should not be treated as medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment guidance.

Mitochondrial disease varies widely between individuals, and decisions about diagnosis, monitoring, medications, supplements, treatment, and care planning should always be made with qualified healthcare professionals who know your medical history, symptoms, and current situation.

This site is intended to help people understand the condition, review the literature, and ask better questions, not replace professional care. If you have symptoms, concerns, or questions about your health, consult a qualified medical professional. You can review the underlying papers and guidance on the Sources page.

I’m Jonathan Bertholet, the patient who created and maintains m3243ag.com.

Why This Site Exists

When I was first diagnosed with the m.3243A>G mutation, I went looking for answers. What I found was scattered across dense research papers, outdated patient leaflets, and forum threads that often raised more questions than they answered. There was no single place that explained things clearly, honestly, and in a way that actually helped me understand what was happening inside my own body.

So I built one.

m3243ag.com is an independent, patient-created resource for anyone affected by this mutation - whether you carry it yourself, care for someone who does, or are a family member trying to make sense of a new diagnosis. Every page is written to be thorough, medically grounded, and free from jargon wherever possible.
